Is the Apple Watch Ultra 3 Worth It?
Our honest take after thorough analysis.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the definitive adventure smartwatch. The 3,000-nit display, precision dual-frequency GPS, 100m water resistance, and 48-hour battery make it a serious tool for outdoor enthusiasts and athletes. The S10 chip delivers smooth performance, and watchOS 11 brings excellent training features. Garmin still wins on multi-day battery life and training depth, but for anyone in the Apple ecosystem who wants the best smartwatch for outdoor adventures, the Ultra 3 is unmatched.
- Best-in-class GPS accuracy with dual-frequency
- Brightest display at 3,000 nits for outdoor visibility
- Excellent 48-hour battery for a smartwatch
- Rugged titanium build with sapphire crystal display
- Expensive at $799 — twice the price of Series 10
- Large 49mm case is too big for smaller wrists
- 48mm band compatibility with standard Apple Watch bands
- Battery life still trails Garmin (days vs weeks)

The adventure smartwatch benchmark
I've worn this on trail runs, ocean swims, and a week-long backpacking trip. GPS tracking is incredibly accurate even in dense forests. Battery lasted 3 days in low-power mode on the trail. Siren feature gives peace of mind on solo trips.

I use it for mountain rescue operations. The precision GPS, depth sensor, and siren are genuinely lifesaving. Display is perfectly readable in full sun with polarized sunglasses. Battery easily handles 48-hour callouts.
Love the Apple ecosystem integration and display quality. For triathlon training, it's excellent. But for multi-day expeditions, I still reach for my Garmin Fenix. Apple needs solar charging or week-long battery.
